Several Ontario casinos will stay closed following a cybersecurity incident that Gateway Casinos detected on Sunday April 16, 2023.The company is currently trying to restore its IT systems after identifying a system-wide malfunction over the weekend.

In an online post, Gateway said that it has sought help from third-party cyber professionals, who are working non-stop to restore the IT environment.
It remains uncertain whether the cyber-incident has compromised customers' information. Gateway said that it has not found any information that the incident could involve personal data compromise to date, but it is informing the relevant privacy officials and gaming regulator of the issue.

The server outage has affected all 14 casinos in Ontario, including Casino Rama in Orillia, Georgian Downs in Innisfil, and Playtime Casinos Wasaga Beach. The casinos' financial impact is yet to be evaluated.
